Designed to take a look at the craft of exhibition curation from a photography curator’s perspective and to get acquainted with different alternatives to exhibiting photography today, ‘A Thousand and One Ways to Exhibit Photography’ consists of two parts in which Knoppers will address theoretical and practical issues.

In the first part, Knoppers will give a presentation based on her curatorial experiences at the Amsterdam-based photography museum Foam and other institutions. This will be shaped around questions such as ‘what is the role of the curator?’, ‘how is an exhibition shaped?’, ‘what are the ways of showing photographs in an exhibition or other presentation mediums – considering their ever-expanding nature?’, ‘what can be the collaboration models between photographers and curators?’. She will also share some of his personal notes on the Turkish photography scene, which he has been following closely with great curiosity, based on her experience living in Türkiye for some years.

In the second part, Knoppers will address the practical aspects of making an exhibition. This part, which will develop around topics such as budgeting for museum exhibitions, event programming, determining presentation alternatives especially for physical exhibition spaces, use of texts in exhibitions, and selection of works, will be shaped in light of the questions submitted in the application form by the participants about the projects they are working on and the exhibition making processes, and will progress with one-on-one feedback.
